Dimensions are the UK’s leading provider of bespoke corporate clothing. The group has a turnover of approximately £140m, clothing over 4 million wearers and dispatching over 17 million garments every year. All supported by a IT system which allows employees from multiple workplaces to choose and order uniforms online. With this in mind, they wished to move to a more user friendly experience for their users so turned to the Bonito team for assistance.
Dimensions run a modern integrated secure IT system through there large in-house technical team. Complimenting this resource Bonito focused on improving the usability of there systems and processes. Via refreshing the user experience and front-end technologies used.
With tight deadlines we knew project management would be a key in the successful delivery of this project. Working with an agile process we worked within predefined sprints. Allowing us to quickly integrate and improve the user experience step by step.
Other companies make use of the Dimensions shop front to sell directly to their employees. For this reason the user experience had to be simple, clean, clear and also work across multiple brands. The challenge came in boiling down design elements to ensure that the style didn’t compromise the functionality of the tools.
Dimensions wanted to handle the front-end integration of our code into their existing back-end system. Therefore before the production of any code was started we concluded that the best form of front-end delivery would be via a Pattern Library. This deliverable is a collated list of individual design elements. Which allows for the quick production and integration of code via bite sized sections. This is most useful when working on large sites and systems. Alongside the visual elements we included code snippets allowing their team to find and use the relevant code quickly.
As with many large companies continued iteration and evolution of tools is essential to maintain a market leading position. Knowing this enabled us to go beyond the delivery of completed front-end web templates and to answer the question of how code will be used in the months and years to come. This enables market positions to be maintained.
By removing barriers within the design and providing clear logical code for the team, we helped build a platform which enables higher sales, better usability and increased flexibility. Aiding Dimensions to achieve their business objectives.
